Important
Enable the AWS CloudWatch Metric Streams integration to monitor all CloudWatch metrics from your AWS services, including custom namespaces. Individual integrations are no longer our recommended option.
New Relic offers an integration for reporting your AWS Direct Connect data. This document explains how to activate this integration and describes the data that can be reported.
Activate integration
To enable this integration follow standard procedures to Connect AWS services to New Relic.
Configuration and polling
You can change the polling frequency and filter data using configuration options.
Default polling information for the AWS Direct Connect integration:
- New Relic polling interval: 5 minutes
- Amazon CloudWatch data interval: 1 minute
Find and use data
To find your integration data, go to one.newrelic.com > All capabilities > Infrastructure > AWS and select an integration.
You can query and explore your data using the following event type:
Entity | Event Type | Provider |
---|---|---|

For more on how to use your data, see Understand and use integration data.
Metric data
This integration collects AWS Direct Connect data for Connection.
Direct Connect Connection data
Metric | Unit | Description |
---|---|---|
| Count | The state of the connection. |
| BitsPerSecond | The bitrate for outbound data from the AWS side of the connection. The number reported is the aggregate over the specified time period (5 minutes by default, 1 minute minimum). |
| BitsPerSecond | The bitrate for inbound data to the AWS side of the connection. The number reported is the aggregate over the specified time period (5 minutes by default, 1 minute minimum). |
| CountPerSecond | The packet rate for outbound data from the AWS side of the connection. The number reported is the aggregate over the specified time period (5 minutes by default, 1 minute minimum). |
| CountPerSecond | The packet rate for inbound data to the AWS side of the connection. The number reported is the aggregate over the specified time period (5 minutes by default, 1 minute minimum). |
| Count | The number of times cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors are observed for the data received at the AWS device. This metric is a counter that might remain the same for an extended period of time because it is only reset when the device is reset. If this value does not increase, then there are no errors occurring. |
| Count | Indicates the health of the fiber connection for egress (outbound) traffic from the AWS side of the connection. This metric is available for connections with 10-Gbps port speeds only. |
| Count | Indicates the health of the fiber connection for ingress (inbound) traffic to the AWS side of the connection. This metric is available for connections with 10-Gbps port speeds only. |
