Uninstall the agent

If you encounter problems using New Relic, you can get support at support.newrelic.com.

If you need to uninstall New Relic completely, follow the procedures for your specific agent or server monitor.

Uninstall New Relic agents

The procedure for uninstalling the New Relic agent varies depending on its language:

Java

To remove the Java agent:

  1. Delete the newrelic folder from your app server's root.
  2. Delete the New Relic Java options variable from your startup script.
  3. When the uninstall process finishes, restart your app.

For more information about installation, see New Relic for Java.

  1. Select Start > All Programs > New Relic .NET Agent.
  2. Select Uninstall the .NET agent.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation.
  4. When the uninstall process finishes, restart your app.

This process will leave your newrelic.config file untouched.

    • If installed with PIP: pip uninstall newrelic/.
    • If installed with easy_install: easy_install -m newrelic.

  3. Run bundle install.
  4. When the uninstall process finishes, restart your app.

For more information about installation, see New Relic for Ruby.

Uninstall New Relic Servers

To uninstall New Relic Servers:

  1. Follow the instructions for your platform:

  2. When the uninstall process finishes, restart your server.

Uninstall New Relic Browser

See instructions in Delete apps from New Relic Browser.

Restart the app or server

After uninstalling New Relic or making a change to your startup script, you must restart your app (or the app server or web server where it is located). You must do this because New Relic agents typically run in the memory of the process running the app. In other words: simply removing those files will not stop the applications that are currently running from sending data to New Relic.

Remove from New Relic interface

To remove your applications or servers from the interface, see Remove apps and servers from New Relic User Interface.

If you are using New Relic Browser, you must disable Browser monitoring for an app before you can remove that app from New Relic APM.
