No data appears (Servers for Linux)

Problem

You installed Servers for Linux and sent requests to your web application, but no data appears in the New Relic Servers UI after several minutes.

Solution

Data should appear on your New Relic Server UI within two to three minutes. If no data appears after a few minutes, try the following steps to diagnose the problem:

1. Verify that the daemon is running
  1. From your terminal, verify that the daemon is running:

    ps aux | grep nrsysmond
  2. If the daemon is not running, start it:

    /etc/init.d/newrelic-sysmond restart
2. Verify your license key
  1. Ensure that you have specified your New Relic license key correctly during the installation process.
  2. Restart the New Relic daemon:

    /etc/init.d/newrelic-sysmond restart
3. Confirm newrelic user and group
  1. Confirm the newrelic user exists:

    getent passwd newrelic
  2. Confirm the newrelic group exists:

    getent group newrelic
  3. If the newrelic user or group do not exist, create them and configure their permissions.
  4. Restart the New Relic daemon:

    /etc/init.d/newrelic-sysmond restart
4. Confirm newrelic permissions

Ensure that the newrelic user and group have appropriate permissions:

  1. Verify the newrelic user and group have read/write access to these files:

  2. Verify that the newrelic user and group have read access to this directory:

    • /proc
  3. If necessary, update the permissions for the newrelic user and group.

    Check with your system administrator before changing permissions.

  4. Restart the New Relic daemon:

    /etc/init.d/newrelic-sysmond restart
5. Verify daemon's network access

Ensure your firewall rules aren't preventing the daemon from contacting the New Relic collector:

  1. Verify that the daemon can reach the collector through your firewall.
  2. If the daemon can't reach the collector, ensure you have opened the correct networks and ports.
  3. Restart the New Relic daemon:

    /etc/init.d/newrelic-sysmond restart

Partial data appears

If you see some but not all metrics, ensure you have upgraded to the latest Servers for Linux version.

If you are using Docker and not seeing Docker metrics, ensure you completed all the Docker installation steps.
