Introduction to AWS integrations

New Relic Infrastructure's Amazon integrations let you monitor your AWS data in several New Relic products, including Infrastructure, New Relic Insights, and New Relic Alerts. To see the features of specific integrations and the data you can collect, see the AWS integrations list.

You must install the Infrastructure agent before you can activate AWS integrations from your Infrastructure account.

Anyone can view and explore the AWS data reporting to your New Relic Infrastructure account.

Only Owner, Admins, or Infrastructure add-on managers can manage the AWS integrations.

Available integrations

New Relic offers both AWS integrations and non-AWS integrations, including an Integrations SDK to create custom integrations. Available integrations depend on your New Relic account level:

Account level Available integrations
All Infrastructure accounts For all Infrastructure accounts, New Relic automatically collects your AWS EC2 data, making it available in the Infrastructure UI.
Infrastructure Pro only With Infrastructure Pro, you get access to many more AWS integrations. New Relic continues to add to this integration list.

Most AWS services offer regional endpoints to reduce data latency between cloud resources and applications. New Relic can obtain monitoring data from services and endpoints that are located in all AWS regions except from China and GovCloud (US) regions.

Connect AWS and New Relic

In order to obtain AWS data, follow the procedure to connect AWS to New Relic Infrastructure, or learn more about the types of integration data that New Relic receives.

Integrations and AWS costs

New Relic Integrations uses the AWS CloudWatch API to obtain metrics from the AWS services you monitor. The number of calls to the CloudWatch API increases as you enable more integrations, add AWS resources to those integrations, or scale those integrations across more regions. This can cause requests to the CloudWatch API to exceed the "1 million free" limits granted by AWS and increase your CloudWatch bill.

View your AWS data

Anyone can view and explore the AWS data reporting to your New Relic Infrastructure account.

Once you follow the configuration process, data from your Amazon Web Services will report directly to Insights. EC2 data will also be visible in the Infrastructure UI. However, unlike standard Insights dashboards, pre-configured Integrations dashboards can't be edited.

To view your AWS data in Insights: Go to infrastructure.newrelic.com > Integrations. For any of the AWS integrations listed:

  • Select an integration name to view (but not edit) data in a pre-configured Insights dashboard.

    OR

  • Select the Explore data database icon icon to view AWS data in the Insights Events explorer.

You can view and reuse the Insights NRQL queries both in the pre-configured dashboards and in the Events explorer dashboards. This allows you to tailor queries to your specific needs.
