Introduction to New Relic AI

New Relic Applied Intelligence (AI) is an intelligent AIOps solution for DevOps, site reliability engineers, and on-call teams. We help you find, troubleshoot, and resolve problems faster.

At New Relic AI’s core is a powerful, flexible, hybrid machine learning engine that reduces alert noise, correlates incidents, and automatically detects anomalies. It uses and learns from your data and feedback over time to improve New Relic's AI to deliver smarter incident context.

Our AI correlates data related to incidents in the Decisions UI. > Incident intelligence > Decisions: New Relic AI finds correlations between incidents, so you can see how problems may be related.

Why New Relic AI?

Our AI helps you solve problems faster.

Feature Description

Smart starting points for troubleshooting & responding to incidents

The critical moments after an incident begins can mean thousands of dollars or clicks for your company. New Relic AI automatically classifies incidents based on the SRE golden signals (latency, traffic, errors, saturation), identifies entities in your stack that may be related to the underlying problem, and suggests a responder for incidents based on historical context. These features help you understand what’s going on at a glance, and give you actionable ideas for what to investigate next or who to ask for help.

Less noise, more focus

With a growing number of tools and ever-increasing system complexity, DevOps and SRE teams can quickly get overwhelmed with alert noise. New Relic AI intelligently correlates related incidents and suppresses noise, so your team is paged only when human action is required.

Incidents with a hybrid AI approach

New Relic AI starts working immediately to streamline and enhance your production incidents. Over time, the system grows smarter and delivers more accurate correlations and insights in multiple ways:

  • The correlation and classification engine adjusts based on your team’s feedback on incidents.

  • Your team can accept suggestions for new correlation rules that are automatically created based on your production data over time.

  • You can create custom logic with unlimited flexibility using the New Relic AI Decision builder.

This hybrid approach—using multiple inputs and leveraging your team’s knowledge and feedback—enables the New Relic AI system to grow smarter, faster.

Determine root causes with Incident Intelligence

New Relic AI’s three-step configuration is designed to help you get up and running quickly:

  • Sources are the data inputs to New Relic AI. You can add your PagerDuty services, New Relic Alerts violations, or other sources via our REST API.

  • Destinations are the PagerDuty services that will receive streamlined, correlated, enhanced incidents after they’re processed in New Relic AI.

  • Pathways are the logical routes from enhanced incidents to specific Destinations - for example, you could specify that all incidents with application/name containing foo go to the Foo team’s dedicated PagerDuty service.

Find unknowns with Proactive Detection

Often, the worst production incidents are caused by underlying problems that your team didn’t find out about until it was too late. New Relic AI’s Proactive Detection easily surfaces this information for you in Slack, or you can set up a webhook to deliver messages where you need them.
