Organization level budgets

Effective cost management is crucial for organizations, and New Relic offers deep visibility into your data ingestion usage. Additionally, implementing proactive mechanisms to alert and stay within budget can help manage costs effectively across the organization.

Set up company-level budgets

Company-level budgets are only available for multi-tenant managing organizations.

Access company budget

If you have a data ingestion contract commitment, your company-level budget appears automatically. Otherwise, select Create company budget.

Important

Default company-level budgets are based on your monthly contract commitments but don't include notifications. You must configure thresholds and destinations to receive alerts.

Set monthly budget limits

  1. Select Manage limits in the Company Budget section.

  2. In the Set monthly budget limits section, enter your monthly data limit in GB.

    Important

    By default, this is configured based on your monthly contract commitments. You can adjust the amount based on your expected usage.

  3. Select Next.

Set up notifications

  1. To receive a warning when you've used a certain percentage of the GB assigned to your company budget for a specific month, in the Thresholds section, select + Add a threshold and enter the percentage at which you want to receive notifications (for example, 75%, 90%, or 95%).
  2. To ensure notifications are sent when the budget exceeds the threshold, in the Destinations section, add at least one destination to be notified. You can choose from the following options:
    • Email: Enter the email addresses of New Relic users to notify about the budget.
    • Webhook: Enter the webhook URL to send notifications to a specific endpoint.
  3. Select Finish.

Set up organization-level budgets

Create an organization budget

For single-tenant customers: If you have a contract commitment, your organization budget appears automatically. Otherwise, select Create organization budget.

For multi-tenant managing organizations: After setting up your company-level budget, select + Add organization budget to create budgets for managed organizations.

For multi-tenant customers, use the organization selector to view and select the managed organization for your budget.

Important

Default organization budgets are based on your monthly contract commitments but don't include notifications. You must configure thresholds and destinations to receive alerts.

Select organization

For single-tenant customers: Select Manage limits in the Organization Budget section.

For multi-tenant managing organizations: Select one organization from the dropdown. Each organization level budget can contain only one organization.

Select Next.

Set monthly budget limits

  1. In the Set monthly budget limits section, enter your monthly data limit in GB.

    Important

    For single-tenant customers, this is configured by default based on your monthly contract commitments. For multi-tenant customers, you'll see how many GB are remaining in your company budget and can allocate any amount from your company-level budget.

  2. Select Next.
