Disable or re-enable alert policies (v2)

Deprecated

This applies only to the legacy alerting system. You can transition from legacy alerting to New Relic Alerts.

To use the New Relic REST API (v2) to disable or enable an alert policy in the existing alerting system, you need the policy ID associated with your policy name.

You can also use the API Explorer to update alert policies.

Find the policy ID

To find the policy ID, use the query to identify the policy ID by name or type. Once you know the policy ID, you can reuse it as needed.

The first part of the output will appear similar to this:

{
  "alert_policies": [
    {
      "id": 4128,    <---<<< POLICY_ID
      "type": "application",
      "name": "Roundhouse",
      "enabled": true,
      "conditions": [
        {....

Disable the policy

To disable the policy, use this cURL command:

curl -X PUT "https://api.newrelic.com/v2/alert_policies/${POLICY_ID}.json" \
     -H "X-Api-Key:${APIKEY}" -i \
     -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
     -d \
'{
  "alert_policy": {
     "enabled": "false"
   }
}'

Re-enable the policy

To re-enable the policy, change the alert_policy section to "enabled": "true", and reissue the command.
