Update alert notification channels

Admins, add-on managers, or Owner: You can add, rename, update, remove, or delete notification channels in New Relic Alerts. (Account Users and Restricted Users can view but not change channel information.)

Depending on the selected channel type, different values appear.

Quick reference for updating channels

Here is a quick reference (listed in alphabetical order) which also includes links to more detailed information and procedures.

Add or remove alert policies assigned to a channel

To add or remove policies assigned to a notification channel:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels > (select a channel) > Policy subscriptions.
  2. From the selected policy, use the windows to select, remove, or clear all notification channels.
Assign a channel to alert policies

To add a notification channel to one or more alert policies:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Alert policies > (select a policy) > Notification channels.
  2. Select Assign channels to policy.
Change a channel's name

To rename an existing notification channel:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels > (select a channel).
  2. From the Channel details, change the name (maximum 64 characters) based on the channel type if applicable.
  3. Select Update channel.
Check for alert policies assigned to a user

To check whether an account user has any policies assigned:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Alert policies > (select a policy) > Notification channels > Users.
  2. Optional: Search by user name or email.
  3. Select the user, and then select Policy subscriptions.
Check how many alert policies are assigned to a channel

To check whether a notification channel has any policies assigned:

Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels.

The Policy subscriptions column lists how many policies are assigned to the channel.

Create more channels

To create a new notification channel:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels.
  2. Select New notification channel.
Delete a channel

To delete a notification channel:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels.
  2. From the Channels index, select the Delete icon delete.png icon on the channel's row.
Test a saved channel

To test a saved notification channel:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Alert policies > (select a policy) > Notification channels > (select a channel) > Channel details.
  2. Select Envelope Message Icon Send a test notification.
View assigned alert policies

To view the policies assigned to a notification channel:

Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels > (select a channel) > Policy subscriptions.

OR

To view the notification channels assigned to an alert policy:

Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Alert policies > (select a policy) > Notification channels.

Basic process

Admins, add-on manager, or Owner: To update a channel, follow this basic procedure:

  1. Go to alerts.newrelic.com > Notification channels > (select a channel).
  2. From the Channel details page, make any necessary changes.
  3. Select Update channel.

The user interface shows a Last modified time stamp for any changes to alert policies, including their conditions and notification channels.
